Government Launches Deceptive Swine Flu Propaganda Blitz To Counter Growing Criticism from Scientific and Medical Community

Government Launches Deceptive Swine Flu Propaganda Blitz

To Counter Growing Criticism from Scientific and Medical Community

Richard Gale & Gary Null

Progressive Radio Network, October 26, 2009

President Obama and his top health officials are engaging in a major public relations effort to divert attention away from whether its swine flu vaccine is effective and safe – to whether there is enough of it to go around. And the media, as always, is cooperating fully. This echoes the way media debate was manipulated during the Vietnam and Iraq Wars. Instead of debating whether we should even be fighting those wars, the media debated only whether we were using the correct military strategy.

Increasing numbers of scientists and doctors are issuing harsh criticisms of the Government’s plan to vaccinate (forcibly if necessary) virtually the entire U.S. population with what they claim is a poorly tested vaccine that is not only ineffective against swine flu, but could cripple and even kill many more people than it helps.

The CDC’s public relations campaign has been running “scare” ads that portray swine flu as a full-blown “pandemic” responsible for snuffing out countless lives, and which, unless stopped by universal vaccination, could kill millions of American citizens. But scientists and health officials throughout the world have called the governments claims unjustified and deliberately misleading.

For example, Dr. Anthony Morris, a distinguished virologist and former Chief Vaccine Office at the U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA), states that “There is no evidence that any influenza vaccine thus far developed is effective in preventing or mitigating any attack of influenza” and that “The producers of these vaccines know they are worthless, but they go on selling them anyway.”

And in November 2007, the UK newspaper The Scotsman, made public warnings by the inventor of the “flu jab,” Dr. Graeme Laver. Dr. Laver was a major Australian scientist involved in the invention of a flu vaccine, in addition to playing a leading scientific role in the discovery of anti-flu drugs. He went on record as saying the vaccine he helped to create was ineffective and [that] natural infection with the flu was safer. “I have never been impressed with its efficacy,” said Dr. Laver.

We hear the assumption being made by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) that the number of deaths from the H1N1 virus is at pandemic levels and now a “national emergency.” One would assume that with all of its resources, the New York Times’ October 26 front page story on the CDC’s statistics would be accurate: 20,000 hospitalizations and 1,000 deaths due to the swine flu. However, this is all fiction. And it is a fiction solely based upon the CDC’s own contradictory statements and actions.

Our independent investigations into the clinical trials and statistical studies of influenza vaccines reveal glaring discrepancies. Let us not forget that it is this same New York Times, with its “star” reporter Judith Miller, who led America into believing that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction, tried to purchase yellow cake uranium from Niger, and had dealings with al-Qaeda. And let us also remember that it is the same CDC and health officials in Washington, including President Ford and his top health advisor F. David Matthews, who pushed through and propagandized an untested vaccine during the 1976 swine flu scare, which resulted in thousands of severely neurologically damaged Americans and about 500 reported deaths. Aside from permanent paralysis, many of these vaccine victims also underwent torturous processes for many years to get the government to recognize their illnesses and help cover their costs. Not only was the CDC’s prediction and vaccination campaign for the 1976 flu season a total disaster, it also turned into a deadly scandal, witnessed across the United States on 60 Minuteswhen Dr. David Sencer, then head of the CDC, confirmed that the vaccine was never field tested, that there were only several reported incidents of H1N1 infection and none of these had been officially confirmed, and then lied about the CDC having no prior evidence that the swine flu vaccine could cause severe and permanent neurological damage. The end result from the 1976 debacle cost the government $3.5 billion in damages, two-thirds were for severe neurological injury and death directly due to the CDC’s vaccination campaign.

Therefore, being anti-vaccine or pro-vaccine is not the most urgent issue. What is critical is whether or not there is legitimate, sound science to support either position; in this regard, the vaccine manufacturers and our federal health agencies have failed in the past, and continue to fail today. And they fail dismally. There is absolutely no evidence for sound-scientific protocol or anything resembling a gold-standard behind the swine flu infection statistics and vaccine efficacy and safety clinical trials to support Obama’s and his health advisors’ claims. Instead, the reports on hospitalizations and deaths due to the H1N1 virus are grossly distorted. What we are really witnessing is “official” science and statistics that are little more than propaganda.

One unfortunate development over the years is the notion that there is such a thing as a “flu season.” The truth is that we move annually into periods where there are dramatic increases in flu-like causing pathogens, however, the majority of these are unrelated to any strain of influenza virus. There can between 150 and 200 different infectious pathogens—adenovirus, rhinovirus, parainfluenza, the very common coronavirus and, of course, pneumonia—that produce flu-like symptoms, and worse, during a “flu season.” For example, how many people have heard of bocavirus, which is responsible for bronchitis and pneumonia in young children, or metapneumovirus, responsible for more than 5 percent of all flu-related illnesses? This is true during every flu season and this year is no different. Furthermore, all flu vaccinations, including the swine flu, are useless for protecting people from these many prevalent infectious organisms.

If we take the combined figure of flu and pneumonia deaths for the period of 2001, and add a bit of spin to the figures, we are left believing that 62,034 people died from influenza. The actual figures determined by Peter Doshi, then at Harvard University, are 61,777 died from pneumonia and only 257 from flu. Even more amazing, among those 257 cases only 18 were confirmed positive for influenza. A separate study conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics for the flu periods between 1979 through 2002 revealed the true range of flu deaths were between 257 and 3006, for an average of 1,348 per year.

The recent CBS Investigative Report, published on October 21, is one example. After the CDC refused to honor CBS’s Freedom of Information request to receive flu infection data for each individual state, the network performed independent outreach to all fifty states to get their statistics. Their report contradicts dramatically the CDC’s public relations blitz. For example, in California, among the approximate 13,000 flu-like cases, 86 percent tested negative for any flu strain. In Florida, out of 8,853 cases, 83 percent were negative. In Georgia and Alaska, only 2.4 percent and 1 percent respectively tested positive for flu virus among all reported flu-like cases. If the infectious-rate ratios obtained by CBS are accurate, the CDC’s figures are significantly reduced and agree with earlier predictions that the H1N1 virus will be simply an unwelcomed annoyance. So we are in the midst of an enormous medical hoax, a design and purpose that has yet to unfold completely, that will nevertheless reap huge revenues for the vaccine industrial complex.

Another example is a recent alarmist report issuing from Georgetown University, also usurped by federal health officials and their multimedia comrades to fuel a campaign of fear and panic. The report announced that over 250 students were infected by swine flu when in fact none of these students were tested for H1N1 infection. The university’s figure was based solely on a count of student visits to the health clinic and calls into an H1N1 hotline.

This is not the first time the CDC’s predictions for influenza strains have been overstated and miscalculated. In an interview on Swedish television, Dr. Tom Jefferson, head of vaccine studies at the prestigious international Cochrane Database Collaboration, after reviewing hundreds of influenza studies and statistical analyses, has said the WHO’s and CDC’s “performance is not very good.” And in an ITN News interview last month, Jefferson called the swine flu pandemic a “juggernaut they [the WHO, government agencies and vaccine makers] created.” For the 1992-1993 season, the prediction was off by 84 percent. For the 1994-1995 season, it was off 43 percent for the primary strain and off 87 percent and 76 percent for two other strains. The Laboratory Center for Disease Control’s study comparing vaccine strains with the strains appearing during the 1997-1998 season found the match was off by 84 percent. Again Dr. Jefferson in a Der Spiegel interview remarked,

“there are some people who make predictions year after year, and they get worse and worse. None of them so far have come about, and these people are still there making these predictions. For example, what happened with the bird flu, which was supposed to kill us all?.... Swine flu could have even stayed unnoticed if it had been caused by some unknown virus rather than an influenza virus… An influenza vaccine is not working for the majority of influenza-like illnesses because it is only designed to combat influenza viruses. For that reason, the vaccine changes nothing when it comes to the heightened mortality rate during the winter months.”

Our review of all clinical trial studies conducted by the H1N1 vaccine makers for pre-licensing in the American market—CSL, Novartis, Sanofi-Pasteur, Medimmune and now GlaxoSmithKline—reveals they were poorly designed and feebly executed. Any professor in molecular biology or virology would fail a graduate student who presented a paper relying on research conducted in the manner of the studies the vaccine corporations submit to the FDA. Nevertheless, it is this lack of sound randomized, double-blind controlled placebo studies, particularly for inactivated virus vaccines, that our government is declaring definitive and is using to justify mass vaccination of our population.

Last week, Switzerland’s health authorities rejected Novartis’ new swine flu vaccine, Celtura, being targeted for women and children, because the company’s studies were insufficient to guarantee its safety. In addition, the new Novartis vaccine, which uses a cell base from dogs, was found to be contaminated with canine-specific bacteria. The Swiss newspaper,Tagesanzeiger, also noted there remains some suspicion that Novartis’ new vaccine may be a repackaging of an earlier 2008 vaccine responsible for killing almost two dozen homeless people during an illegal clinical trial in Poland. This is the same Novartis whose Fluvirin H1N1 vaccine being distributed in the US relied only on a hasty clinical efficacy and safety trial enrolling only a small number of health adults. Novartis likely remains unperturbed. The Swiss pharmaceutical giant has reported a $6.1 billion profit so far this year and expects to boost sales for the final quarter with is swine flu vaccine.

In July, the CDC announced it would cease testing and counting H1N1 virus infections. Their public reason was simply that they are convinced there is a pandemic and, therefore, accurate monitoring was unnecessary. On August 30, the CDC declared the states should report influenza and pneumonia-associated hospitalizations and deaths together, not singling out actual cases of H1N1 infection if there happen to be any actually confirmed from a laboratory. This has always been the CDC’s policy, and the 36,000 figure of annual flu deaths repeated ad nausea on their website and spewed from the media’s health pulpits for several years straight, does not distinguish between pneumonia, influenza and other flu-like pathogenic deaths. Perhaps it would make very little difference because the current rapid diagnostic tests for the H1N1 virus can range in only 10-50 percent accuracy.

Elsewhere in the world, particularly in Europe, civilians are increasingly rejecting the H1N1 vaccine. Recent polls in Germany and Austria show only 13 and 18 percent respectively willing to take the shot. In Sweden, four vaccine related deaths have been announced and almost 200 healthcare workers have reported becoming more seriously ill from the vaccination than they might have from a flu infection. In the US, anywhere from 90-99 percent of adverse events go unreported.

If people would simply shut off the CDC’s supported propaganda noise being blasted across the airwaves and newspapers— the spectacle of newscasters being inoculated, interviews with government health officials or private doctors and academics receiving consultation fees from drug makers, and the drivel of the New York Times—and simply do their homework, Americans would wake up and realize the hoax behind the swine flu pandemic. All of the information is before us. Nothing is hidden. All the contradictions and hypocrisies are contained within the massive vaccine industrial complex—including the government health agencies and professional medical associations. The lie is too large for them to not expose themselves if we simply look.

Vaccination Choice - Obama’s Hypocrisy

hypocrisyI want to share a chronology of events with you:

On 9/5/08, then Senator Obama said, on the campaign trail, “I don’t believe in selective vaccination.”

On 9/1/09, President Obama said, “All Americans should get the swine flu vaccine.”

On 9/3/09, Obama’s regulatory agency, the CDC, said, “Children with medical issues should get H1N1 vaccine first.”

On 9/4/09, the CDC further said, “All children age 6 months and older should receive pandemic influenza A (H1N1) vaccine when it becomes available.”

On 9/20/09, Obama tells CNN’s John King that the Obama family will wait in line , like everyone else.  When Health Secretary Sebelius and CDC Head Frieden tell them that it’s their turn, they will get their H1N1 vaccines.

On 10/7/09, Obama’s Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said, “All Americans should get swine flu vaccination.”  She unconditionally vouched for the safety of the vaccine.

All statements above are consistent with President Obama’s position in support of a very heavy government hand when it comes to immunization.

But what are we to make of this announcement?

On 10/8/09, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that Obama’s girls are not vaccinated against swine flu, that the vaccine is not available to them based on their risk.

Gibbs doesn’t elaborate, so we can’t infer the reasons why.  I doubt he’s saying that the vaccine is too risky.  I’m guessing he’s saying that the girls have an underlying medical condition that prevents them from getting the shot.

Let’s see if I got this straight.

Candidate Obama doesn’t believe in vaccination choice.  He believes in vaccine mandates for American children as a requirement for daycare and school admission.

President Obama tells all Americans to get the swine flu shot.  His own regulatory agency says that all kids should get the shot: kids with medical problems, and kids who are well.  His Health Secretary unconditionally vouches for the safety of the vaccines and reiterates her boss’s exhortation: all Americans should get the shot.

The next day, Obama’s own Press Secretary tells America that the nation’s First Daughters aren’t getting the swine flu vaccine.

Anyone else having a problem with this?

Our Commander-in-Chief is caught in a supreme conundrum.  He has gone on the record saying he doesn’t believe in selective vaccination.  That means, he does not support the personal belief exemption.  That means, he believes all people should get all recommended shots.  The swine flu vaccine is one doozy of a recommended shot.  Officials are falling over themselves to say as much.  The media has fallen in line, telling us to “get the damn vaccine” and “it’s safe, safe, safe.”

So what’s this?  Daddy Obama is exercising vaccination choice for his children?  Could there be legitimate reasons for his girls to vary from a one-size fits all vaccination program?  He owes the American people an explanation.  And it better be a good one.

Rally before gov. debate aimed at vaccine choice

Our Vaccination Choice Rally Was A Big Hit!!
Over 400 people - organizers, supporters, speakers, media, students, interested debate attendees, and onlookers - gathered on the William Paterson University campus Friday, October 16, 2009 to listen to testimony in support of vaccination choice.  With just a few day's notice, two dozen speakers canceled personal and work commitments, and some traveled a great distance to stand together, in Wayne, New Jersey, to make a statewide and national appeal for vaccination choice.
Rally before gov. debate aimed at vaccine choice
Thursday, October 22, 2009

WAYNE — Over 70 demonstrators rallied loudly outside William Paterson University's Shea Performing Arts Center last Friday in support of a bill that dictates conscientious exemption to mandatory vaccination.

With hopes of drawing attention of dignitaries lining up for the state's final gubernatorial debate held that night at the center, members of the New Jersey Coalition For Vaccination Choice, despite cold temperatures, spoke passionately from their hearts.

A dozen of guest speakers from doctors to everyday parents shared their personal stories and viewpoints about the dangers of vaccination with much of the emphasis focused on children.

According to information on Vaccination Choice's Web site, 19 states offer conscientious or philosophical exemption to mandatory vaccination, but New Jersey is not included in that group, as it only allows exclusion for medical or religious reasons. New Jersey also approves more vaccines than any other state with 41 doses of 13 different diseases by age 18, most of which is administered to children by age 6, beginning at 12 hours old.

Louise Kuo Habakus, of Red Bank, who started the coalition, began researching vaccinations after both her children as infants experienced severe inflammatory bowel disease following immunization.

"Lobbyists are paid a lot of money by big pharmaceutical companies to get laws passed to mandate vaccines and it has to stop," demanded Habakus.

As listed on package inserts, several adverse effects in children are believed to be the result of vaccines including heart failure, various neurological and autoimmune problems, cancer, SIDS, asthma, anaphylaxis or severe food allergies, autism, as well as diabetes, and obesity, Vaccination Choice says.

The New Jersey Assembly approved a bill in May that requires insurance companies to assume the cost of therapy for autism, which currently affects one out of 91 children in the state, the highest rate in the nation, as stated on Vaccination Choice's Web site.

Habakus, asking parents to make their own decisions, said, "We're not saying vaccinations cause autism, but it causes the same symptoms so…"

Among a sea of homemade signs some read: "Big business has protection from Congress" and "Stop gate keeping the information."

"Gov. Corzine and others have not listened to us but we're here and we're angrier now and growing in numbers," Habakus yelled. "If you want our vote, show us what's best for our children."

Coalition members urge further testing on vaccine ingredients and for manufacturers to study how vaccines interact with each other. Vaccination Choice notes that existing science doesn't implicate vaccines or their ingredients as causes for chronic and neurodevelopmental disorders.

An emotional Patty Difiglia spoke about her daughter Gionna, who she said became ill with extreme fever and heavy diarrhea after a receiving four vaccines for Hepatitis B.

"After checking her, we realized she was not breathing and we immediately dialed 911 but the police were unable to revive her. It was initially reported that she died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) but no tests proved conclusive that that was the cause. It was finally determined that she died due to injury from vaccination," said Difiglia adding, "I'm not against vaccines but I don't think our children's health should be risked due to them."

There are several exemption complications, such as religious exemption, which forces parents into an all or none status. Many parents choose to home school their kids in order to avoid pressures of vaccination requirements.

Craig and Vicki Schwartz, of Hightstown, who are both teachers in elementary and middle schools, say an increase in autistic programs and children with peanut allergies led them to begin questioning vaccinations. Claiming religious exemption has allowed them to bypass vaccine protocol. "Our son Noah had a few vaccines until he was a year old and then we decided against it. And our daughter Juliana was a home birth and has never been vaccinated," said Craig Schwartz.

Vaccination Choice also speaks to adults about the seasonal flu shot, as well as the newly released H1N1 shot.

Over 90 percent of the regular flu vaccine supply contains 25 mcg of mercury, which is a known neurotoxin. Parents, though, are up in arms, since the seasonal flu shot was mandated last year for children age 6 to 59 months who attend daycare and pre-school programs in New Jersey.

Various doctors on hand also warned passerby's of the dangers of the H1N1 flu vaccine, which has only been tested on 19 children. The government has ordered 251 million vaccine doses, leaving coalition members to question the necessity for what's being alleged to be a mild pandemic, no worse than the regular flu.

Bill A260/S1071 for no forced vaccinations has broad, bipartisan support with 39 sponsors on board so far, including local Assemblyman Scott Rumana. If passed, New Jersey will join states such as Arizona, California, New Mexico, Vermont, Maine, and Ohio to offer such a choice.

NJ Coalition for Vaccination Choice update and preparing for our final call-in for October.

Here's an update from the New Jersey Coalition for Vaccination Choice:

Next Tues. is our final call-in for October ( ), so please plan to call.  Assemblyman Conaway who is personally holding up A260 in his committee, want e-mails, so lets send him a bunch.  There are some events planned in his district for next week, so if you in Dist. 7 or nearby and would like to participate, please check our event calendar at Dist. 7 inculdes: Beverly, Burlington, Burlington Township, Cinnaminson, Delanco, Delran, Edgewater Park, Florence, Maple Shade, Merchantville, Mount Holly, Palmyra, Pennsauken, Riverside, Riverton, Westampton, Willingboro (Camden and Burlington Counties)
Here is an update from one of the leaders of the Coalition:
"I called yesterday around 3pm.

Vitale's office was taking down my name & town, before I even said the bill number. At the end, I asked if he knew what bill I was calling in reference to, and he said, "the Vaccination bill, right?" Yup, that's the one! ; )

Calling my own local legislators was good, too, because I got to ask them where the two non-sponsors each stood on our bill. If it came to the floor for a vote, how would they vote? FYI, the Coalition recently sent 120 faxes out, to each senator and 2 Assemblypersons, asking them to check mark off how they would vote, and return it to us. Several of them have, mostly our co-sponsors so far, but a few of them have weighed in saying they would vote yes. We're (persistently contacting) the folks who have not responded, but if MANY callers to their office next Tuesday were to ask where they stand, it could make a big impression.

I would encourage everyone on the loop here to be asking folks who are not our sponsors, when making these calls, as we head into the elections for the whole NJ Assembly in just 10 days, indeed- just where do they stand?

Also got feedback that our handwritten letters from the Letter Writing Kits are really impactful, that every one of those get read, because they know constituents take the time to not just cut & paste a form letter, or dash off a postcard. Our grassroots effort IS working! If anyone wants to make up some letter writing kits of your own or your group, all the materials can be downloaded, just under the pink box, from our website at: "

Celebs Reach Out to Desiree Jennings

Local woman disabled by flu vaccine reaction

WASHINGTON, D.C. - There are new developments in the story FOX 5 first brought you about a Redskins cheerleader left disabled by a seasonal flu shot. Now, Desiree Jennings is adding a boost of star power to her cause.

An organization founded by actors Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey is so touched by Desiree's story that they have reached out to offer not only words of encouragement, but the organization's support.

Desiree Jennings' struggle is getting worldwide attention.

"It's been unreal," Jennings told FOX 5. "I didn't think anyone would even care about my story. People are sitting there crying and I can't understand why."

She first spoke to FOX 5 about a severe reaction she suffered after getting a seasonal flu shot. Now, both Fairfax Inova and Johns Hopkins say Desiree suffers from a rare neurological disorder as a result of the flu shot. The condition is called dystonia, and it affects every aspect of her ability to function. One day after our story aired, Generation Rescue, an organization founded by actors Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey , reached out to Desiree.

"They are extremely helpful," Desiree said. "They have a lot of doctors that deal with vaccine interactions, and they have sent us so many other stories similar to mine. Unfortunately a lot of theirs are with children, which is worse. I can understand it happening to an adult, but not a little child that hasn't had a chance to live their life and can't speak, so I want to speak. They can't, and I want to help them, too," says Jennings.

McCarthy's 7-year-old son Evan is autistic. She founded Generation Rescue along with actor Jim Carrey to educate people about ways to reverse autism. The organization is now raising awareness over the safety of vaccines including flu shots. Generation Rescue's President Stan Kurtz was so touched by Desiree's story, the organization is hoping to fly her to Los Angeles for treatment.

"And the story is, anyone that sees-- it is just so compelling, Jenny was crying over it," says Kurtz.

Kurtz also believes with the proper treatment, some of her symptoms may be reversible.

"Well, unfortunately we happen to be very good at handling vaccine injury. We've got a lot of doctors that have experience in doing that, so our doctors and our resources are completely available to her, and we're going do everything we can to give her a lot of options to, to help take care to help recover from this condition as best we can," says Kurtz.

For Desiree, it's a glimmer of hope and a chance at getting her life back.

"Get back to my normal life, but still have had a chance to warn people as well," says Jennings.

Still, the Centers for Disease Control says the seasonal flu vaccine is safe and recommends it to the general public. Desiree, in the meantime, wants to get her message out about her concerns over the safety of vaccines.

Judge Halts Flu Vaccine Mandate For Health Workers

New York Health Care Employees Won't Be Forced To Get H1N1 Vaccine...For Now

Oct 16, 2009 12:23 pm US/Eastern
State Supreme Court judge issued a restraining order Friday against the state from enforcing the controversial mandatory vaccination.

Three parties – the Public Employees Federaion, New York State United Teachers, and an attorney representing four Albany nurses – challenged the order and for now the vaccination for nurses, doctors, aides, and non-medical staff members who might be in a patient's room will remain voluntary.

New York was the first state in the country to initially mandate flu vaccinations for its health care workers, but many health care workers quickly protested against the ruling. In Hauppauge, workers outside a local clinic screamed "No forced shots!" when the mandate came down at the end of September.

"I don't even tend to the sick. I am in the nutrition field. They are telling me I must get the shot because I work in a health clinic setting," said Paula Small, a Women, Infants and Children health care worker.

Small said she would refuse to be vaccinate, worried the vaccine is untested and unproven, leaving her vulnerable. In 1976, there were some deaths associated with a swine flu vaccination.

Registered nurse Frank Mannino, 50, was also angry. He said the state regulation violates his personal freedom and civil rights.

"And now I will lose my job if I don't take the regular flu shot or the swine flu shot."

When asked if he's willing to lose his job, Mannino said, "Absolutely. I will not take it, will not be forced. This is still America."

The protest also shook Albany. Hundreds of demonstrators demanded freedom of choice. After all, as health care professionals, they argue they're already constantly washing their hands and aren't likely to transmit or contract the flu.

Around 500,000 health care workers would have been slated to receive the vaccine

"It's certainly their prerogative to voice their opinion," said Dr. Susan Donelan of Stony Brook University Hospital.

Donelan said most in the medical community see the benefits and safety of the shots and welcome them, and that hospitals must obey the law.

"Our hospital is committed to following the mandate to have our personnel vaccinated," she said.

The state said change was needed this year to save lives. Typically only about 45 percent of health care workers take advantage of voluntary flu vaccines.

More than 150 institutional outbreaks of seasonal and H1N1 flu are expected this year in hospitals, nursing homes and hospice centers.

There is also a strong resistance to the vaccine from the general public. A new Harvard University poll shows that only four in 10 adults intend to take the vaccine themselves, and only six in 10 plan to give it to their children.

NVIC Launches Research Fund to Study Health & Vaccination

NVIC Launches Research Fund to Study Health & Vaccination

by Barbara Loe Fisher
National Vaccine Information Center

"Show Us the Science and Give Us the Choice" was the rallying cry of the 700 parents and health care workers who traveled from 44 states and 11 nations to attend the groundbreaking Fourth International Public Conference on Vaccination sponsored by the National Vaccine Information Center Oct. 2-4, 2009. The historic conference featured presentations by more than 40 world experts in the areas of vaccine science, policy, law, and ethics and raised more than $100,000 to launch an international fund raising campaign for scientific research to investigate health differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated children and identify those at risk for suffering vaccine injury.

Families Join With Health Care Workers

Families with healthy children and those with vaccine injured children joined hands with nurses, doctors and allied health care workers in a united call for quality scientific research and the human right to make informed, voluntary vaccination decisions. What we witnessed was a celebration of the human spirit and what we affirmed was dedication to truth in science and the duty to protect the biological integrity of our children.

We Are Not Going to Wait Any Longer

We are not going to wait any longer for government or industry to answer the big question of whether the nearly 70 doses of 16 vaccines that doctors now give our children between the day of birth and age 18 is contributing to the unexplained chronic disease and disability epidemic that is harming far too many of our children. With 1 child in 6 now learning disabled; 1 in 9 asthmatic; 1 in 100 developing autism; 1 in 450 diabetic and millions more suffering with seizures, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, bi-polar disorder and other chronic illness, the National Vaccine Information Center is assembling a group of independent experts from multiple scientific disciplines to immediately evaluate and act to protect our children's health.

Vicky Debold, PhD, RN Appointed Scientific Research Director

NVIC's Children's Fund for Hope, Health and Healing will raise funds to first create data collection systems and conduct small preliminary studies with a longer term goal of conducting a large 10-year clinical study. The scientific research program will evaluate health outcomes of vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals; identify potential high risk factors for adverse responses to vaccination; and investigate the biological mechanisms for vaccine injury and death.

Vicky Debold, PhD, RN, who teaches health research methods at George Mason University and has served as NVIC's Director of Patient Safety for three years, has been appointed Research Director for NVIC's Children's Fund for Hope, Health & Healing. She is assembling a steering committee of health research experts and has pledged "to leave no stone unturned in our efforts to understand why so many healthy infants and children are regressing after vaccination and becoming chronically ill."

Dawn Richardson Appointed Director of State Advocacy

NVIC will also raise funds to strengthen informed consent protections in US vaccine laws and support health care workers seeking to protect their right to make informed, voluntary vaccination decisions. Dawn Richardson, co-founder and president of PROVE, has been appointed as NVIC's Director of State Advocacy. Mrs. Richardson led a seven-year successful grassroots campaign to obtain conscientious belief exemption to vaccination in Texas in 2003. She said "There is too much abuse of executive power taking place at the state level when it comes to mandatory vaccination."

NJ Rallies Again For Vaccination Choice at William Paterson University on October 16

Large Numbers of Concerned Voters Gather at Governor’s Debate in Wayne

Middletown, October 13, 2009 - Life Health Choices and the New Jersey Coalition for Vaccination Choice (NJCVC) announce a public rally at William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ on October 16, starting at 4:00 pm, just a few hours prior to Friday’s televised gubernatorial debate.

With pandemic swine flu headlines dominating the press, and half of all adults refusing to get the controversial new H1N1 vaccine, there is heightened awareness about the importance of vaccination choice.  The entire New Jersey Assembly is up for re-election or retirement in November.  Candidates and incumbents are expected to join other speakers in sending a pointed message to the three leading candidates vying for New Jersey’s chief executive slot, and to the large number of media outlets who will be on site covering the debate.

Hundreds of voters, parents, health care workers, students and concerned citizens are expected to gather outside the Shea Performing Arts Center this Friday afternoon at the site of the governor’s second debate on William Paterson University’s campus.

The nation’s first “Freedom of Choice” rally was held in Trenton on October 16, 2008.  Over 700 people and three dozen speakers rallied to demonstrate deep and widespread support across the state for A260/S1071, the Conscientious Exemption to Mandatory Immunization bill, an event that drew both widespread national and state-wide media attention.  As quoted in the Star Ledger and captured on video last fall during a “front lawn rally” in Middletown, Governor Corzine admitted that he gets more calls and letters on this issue than any other except tolls.  These pleas have failed to create the political will to move the bill and it continues to languish in the Assembly and Senate.

“Vaccine mandates make people mad and they can backfire, creating distrust and weakening public confidence in the nation’s vaccine program,” says Louise Kuo Habakus, founder of Life Health Choices and a leading NJCVC member.  Habakus is alluding to last year’s four new vaccine mandates (including the contentious seasonal flu shot) and the North report released last Thursday reflecting a steep decline in the children aged 19 to 35 months in NJ receiving the full set of recommended shots, from 38% in 2007 to 12% in 2009.  For further details on the rally visit and

In related news, national autism organizations Generation Rescue and Autism One join forces to tackle the number one pediatric health crisis in the world.  The Wayne vaccination choice rally kicks off their national neighborhood campaign to demand parental health freedom rights and solutions to the epidemic of chronic and developmental disorders plaguing our children.   Details coming soon at

Life Health Choices is an advocacy organization dedicated to improving lives, building community and creating change through informed choices affecting our lives and our health.  NJCVC is comprised of local, state and national organizations and individuals including physicians, attorneys, holistic organizations, vaccine safety and autism support groups.

Vaccination choice is a growing concern, especially in the Garden State. New Jersey mandates 45 doses of 14 vaccines in order for children to attend school.  This is 35% more than the next highest state.  There is no testing of these vaccines for cancer, infertility, or safety of multiple administration with other vaccines.  Never mind the administration of the swine flu vaccine and all of the questions that come with it for something that is that is so new....

The entire NJ Assembly is up for re-election and the Governor's race will also be decided on November 3rd.  These are the people that will be making the decisions regarding your rights and the future rights of your children and vaccination mandates.  It's not often that you get the opportunity to stand up and send a strong message to political candidates while the media is already in attendance.

Take advantage of this opportunity to be heard!  The NewJersey Coalition for Vaccination Choice and Life Health Choices have joined forces to rally for vaccination choice.   Be a part of the movement.

NJ Rallies Again -- Join Us 10/16/09 At Governor's Debate in Wayne, NJ... H1N1 Shot For My Kids?

    October 11, 2009
    From Louise Kuo Habakus

Join us in person or in spirit this Friday, October 16, 2009 starting at 4:00 pm in Wayne, New Jersey at the William Paterson University, the location for the Governor's second televised debate, outside the Shea Performing Arts Center.

Yes, the date does sound familiar! It will be exactly one year to the day since last year's "Freedom of Choice" rally in Trenton, when we sent a message to New Jersey legislators and to the entire country that, in response to an ever increasing number of mandated shots for school attendance, New Jersey's parents demand vaccination choice.

Governor Corzine has failed to respond to our appeal for choice. Do you have something you want to say to New Jersey's next Governor? And to the entire New Jersey Assembly which is also up for re-election (or retirement) on November 3rd and will be reading the press after Friday's rally?

Click HERE for details about the rally. And click HERE for the flyer. You'll want to make signs, arrange a carpool, get childcare (or bring the kids), and send the flyer out far and wide. Check back later for instructions on how to submit a debate question on vaccination choice for the three guys running for Governor.

Please rally with us in Wayne, New Jersey on Friday, October 16. You don't get too many opportunities to stand up for your rights and send a strong message to political candidates while the media is already in attendance, just moments prior to a televised debate during one of the most hotly contested gubernatorial elections in recent history.

Last year, New Jersey was the first state to mandate flu shots as a condition of daycare and pre-school admission. This year, New York is the first state to mandate flu shots for healthcare workers as a condition of employment. The military also mandated flu shots for uniformed personnel.

Who's next? We must know that teachers, social workers and the police cannot be far behind.

America is taking to the streets to protest. This coming week, we'll be protesting in Wayne, New Jersey. Last week, Albany, New York dominated local and national news with its vaccination choice rally that drew a diverse crowd of 700+ participants, healthcare workers to be sure, but many concerned parents, professionals and constitutional defense groups were also in strong attendance. I was there and joined over a dozen other speakers who traveled a distance to stand together in Albany and have our voices heard. Listen to my short speech HERE... nearly 2000 visits and climbing!

When you force people to get shots, it makes them mad. People know that vaccination can sometimes go terribly wrong and government should not apply such a heavy hand.

If the risks and benefits are fully disclosed and we are permitted to make our own decisions, we will figure out the best thing to do for ourselves and our families. We will also understand that it is our decision to make. Above all, parents want to protect their children.

If the risks are underplayed and people are forced to get shots, if further steps are taken to insulate government, industry and doctors from liability so we are entirely on our own when injuries and death occur, we stop trusting. There's a big trust gap. And the system becomes broken... perhaps irrevocably, as officials ironically bring about the very thing they most dread: lack of confidence in the national childhood vaccination program.

Give people choice. Here's why (keep reading)...

The bottom line is very compelling. Vaccine rates do not tumble in states that offer the philosophical exemption to mandatory school shots. Click HERE for an interactive map that allows you to see the medical, religious and philosophical exemptions taken by state.

Carefully note that states offering vaccination choice do not necessarily have higher vaccination rates than those that do not offer this right to health freedom. Check out the following comparison of vaccine exemption rates from the 2007-2008 school year as reported by the CDC:

Comparison of vaccine exemption rates 2007-2008

    States with vaccination choice

    • 0.6% Arkansas

    • 0.9% Oklahoma

    • 1.2% North Dakota

    • 1.4% New Mexico

    • 1.8% California

    • 2.3% Arizona

    States without vaccination choice

    • 4.1% Oregon

    • 4.0% Illinois

    • 2.9% Alaska

    • 1.6% Montana

    • 0.8% New Jersey

Here's an interesting case study to prove the growing vaccine trust gap. New Jersey's exemption rate during the 2007-2008 school year was 0.8%. The following year, the Garden State mandated four new shots for school. Parents got mad, organized and protested. And look what happened... more parents stopped vaccinating! Just two days ago, North reported that the percent of NJ children aged 19-35 months receiving all recommended doses of key vaccines tumbled, from 38% in 2007 to 12% in 2009.

New Jersey mandates more shots than any other state. And this downward pressure on vaccination uptake is not new. Read this March 2009 article: U.S. Survey Shows Fewer N.J. Children Getting Vaccinated.

There are 32 states in our country that don't offer vaccination choice. Will they get a clue? Or will vaccination rates continue to decline as parents battle public health officials over the turf that has become our bodies? Who gets to decide?

    Read my blog post!

On Friday, the CDC announced that sixteen kids died of the swine flu in one week. And then we hear that H1N1 flu is taking off. We know where this is leading. In the inimitable words of Nancy Snyderman, "Just get your damn vaccine!"

"The H1N1 sky is falling" comes on the heels of reports that very large numbers of parents and adults don't want the shots, for their kids or themselves.

Now this is a very large problem. We're in a recession. No one is in the mood to hear about government wasting our tax dollars. People don't want the swine flu shots? But we've spent billions of dollars buying them! We have ordered 251 million doses of them, for crying out loud! Not to mention the big bucks spent on Tamiflu, face masks and Elmo.

So what to do? How to increase the uptake? I don't pretend to live inside the mind of our intrepid public health officials. But it seems we have two viable choices. We force people to get them. We scare the heck out of them. Or we try both of them out at the same time.

In my latest blog post, I offer some observations on H1N1 and the swine flu vaccine for parents who are tempted to rush out and get the shot for their kids. Take a deep breath, roll up your sleeves, go online, and do some research first.

Keep your wits about you. Flu season won't last forever.
