Governor elect Chris Christie is the first governor-elect in the history of the state who made a campaign promise and went on record in support of vaccination choice. Louise Kuo Habakus, founder of Life Health Choices was extremely pleased with the outcome: “This election is a wake-up call to politicians nationwide. Vaccine choice belongs in the parents’ house, not the Statehouse or the White House.” Her advocacy work inspired meetings with campaign leaders last December and kept lines of communication open on this hot topic.
In a letter to potential voters, Chris Christie stated, "I have met with families affected by autism from across the state and have been struck by their incredible grace and courage. Many of these families have expressed their concern over New Jersey’s highest-in-the nation vaccine mandates. I stand with them now, and will stand with them as their governor in their fight for greater parental involvement in vaccination decisions that affect their children."
He continues with, "I stand by them now, and will stand with them as their governor in their fight for greater parental involvement in vaccination decisions that affect their children… Ending waste in government in order to improve care and services for these unique children and adults, as well as giving parents the choice they deserve in their children’s health care decisions, will be top priorities.”
This is a political leader that is breaking ground--few in the past have addressed the growing vaccination concern, never mind supported the cause. It will be exciting to see what he implements to back up his powerful campign promises--stay tuned!
